Bentley Upgrades The Continental

(23 Sep 04)

Available to order from next month, the 2005 Bentley Continental GT will have some quite minor changes to the standard specification, additional trim options and, at extra cost, a brand-new Mulliner Driving Specification which does not, however, involve any powertrain or suspension modifications. The 552bhp twin-turbo W12 engine remains as before, and so does the four-wheel drive system.

Bentley Continental 08.

All Continentals will now come with six-language telephone voice activation, Magnolia hide upholstery is added to the standard trim choices, and there's more colour-coding of the carpets and seat belts. The 2005 cars will have an extended list of extra-cost Mulliner options (in the 80th anniversary year of the original H. J. Mulliner coachbuilding firm's first commission from Bentley Motors) including such items as aluminium fascia panels and a two-tone leather-trimmed multi-function steering wheel, lambswool rugs and an alloy fuel filler cap.

The Mulliner Driving Specification features new 20" two-piece seven-spoke alloy wheels fitted with Advan Sport tyres, drilled alloy pedals and footrest, and a chrome-and-hide gear selector for the ZF Tiptronic transmission. The other MDS upgrades are to interior trim materials and designs, including the choice of dark-stained Burr Walnut or Piano Black wood veneers.

Price of the standard car has risen by just over £2500 to £112,750, and the Mulliner Driving Specification can be factory-fitted for another £6000.
