(Wed 19 Nov 08) smart has introduced a new version of the fortwo city car which features a new system called micro hybrid drive (mhd).
mhd is basically a stop/start function, but it works in a slightly unusual way. The engine stops when the speed of the car drops below 5mph and the system senses that the driver is braking. When the driver's foot comes back off the brake pedal, the engine immediately restarts. In city driving, fuel consumption naturally improves substantially, while CO2 emissions are officially reduced to 103g/km. The smart mhd is available with 61bhp and 71bhp engines, and in the pure, pulse and passion trim levels, at prices starting from £7060. |
