Toyota Upgrades Hilux

(Fri 05 Sep 08)

Toyota has made several changes to its Hilux pickup range in time for the 2009 model year, which will actually start towards the end of 2008.

Toyota Hilux 21.

All models benefit from restyled bodywork, smarter interiors and a few suspension tweaks. Otherwise, the Single Cab, Extra Cab and HL2 Double Cab remain as before.

The major changes have been applied to the HL3 and Invincible versions of the Double Cab. The HL3 now gets a leather-trimmed steering wheel with audio controls, privacy glass and a new design of 15" alloy wheel, and if you go for the three-litre turbo diesel engine rather than the 2.5 you'll find that it also comes with automatic air-conditioning and sports front seats.

The Invincible comes with new 17" alloy wheels and leather seats, and it's also the only Hilux fitted with Vehicle Stability Control as standard.

In addition to all this, three-litre Double Cabs are available with a new five-speed automatic transmission. To counteract the inevitable power losses caused by the automatic, the engine gets an increase in maximum torque, though maximum power remains the same as before at 169bhp.

Prices have not yet been confirmed, but this will no doubt happen within the next couple of months.
