Five years after the then-current Skoda Superb won the Caravan Club Towcar of the Year Award, its replacement has repeated the feat.

The specific model singled out for honours was the 2.0 TDI manual. The judges praised its vast interior space, comfortable seats, power and refinement, as well as the smoothness of the gearchange, and reckoned that "this will become one of the all-time caravanning favourites".

The Award is officially open only to new or substantially changed models, but by tradition the previous winner is always invited back to defend its title. The Ford Mondeo 2.5 Titanium X estate didn't quite manage that this year, but it did win the £25,000-£32,000 category.

Other winners were the Citroen Berlingo Multispace XTR 1.6 HDi, the Hyundai i800, the Mercedes-Benz C 320 CDI Sport estate, the Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0 TDI 4Motion automatic and the Volvo V70 D5 AWD SE.
