(Tue 11 Aug 09) Three-times snooker World Champion Ronnie O'Sullivan will make his motorsport debut at Silverstone this weekend (August 15/16).
O'Sullivan will be driving a Volkswagen Jetta in two rounds of the Volkswagen Racing Cup, and he's looking forward to raising his game after previous driving exploits on the television programmes Top Gear and Fifth Gear. "They were good things to do," he says, "but this is my first real intense kind of motorsport experience. I want to continue racing; it's something that I'm well into. I'm doing Silverstone and hopefully also the Brands Hatch races in September, and I definitely want to do more racing next year." The Jetta is sponsored by London minicab company Addison Lee, whose directors Liam and Kieran Griffin joined the Volkswagen Racing Cup in 2008 and are competing this year in a Scirocco and Golf GTI respectively. The car will run with the number 147, and if you have to ask why you probably don't know who Ronnie O'Sullivan is either. Comment on this story on Facebook or Twitter.
