| Mercedes-Benz G-Class Returns | ||
|
(Mon 26 Apr 10) It's ten years since Mercedes-Benz last sold the G-Class SUV in the UK, but the old stager (which dates back as far as 1979) has never gone out of production, and now it's coming back to this country.
There will be three versions, the first of which is the commercial G 300 CDI Professional. The two passenger models are the 221bhp G 350 CDI turbo diesel and the rather alarming 500bhp supercharged G 55 AMG Kompressor. Despite considerable aerodynamic disadvantages, this one has a 0-62mph time of just 5.5 seconds. The non-commercials are very well-equipped, with automatic climate control air-conditioning, bi-xenon headlights, heated seats with position memory, leather upholstery, rear parking sensors and a Harman Kardon Logic 7 sound system. Technical highlights include permanent four-wheel drive, lockable differentials, ESP and low- and high-ratio modes in the automatic gearbox. No G-Class is cheap. Even the G 300 CDI Professional costs from £57,975, the G 350 CDI is priced from £79,975, and the G 55 AMG Kompressor tops the range at £114,975. UK sales will begin this autumn. |
