(Mon 08 Feb 10) The first Porsche 911 Turbo S for five years has been created in response to customers demand for greater performance (as if the standard 911 Turbo wasn't quick enough) and will make its world debut at the Geneva Show next month.
The S is 30bhp more powerful than the regular Turbo, with a maximum of output of 530bhp, and several items which would be available only as optional extras on a 911 - such as the seven-speed PDK twin-clutch semi-automatic gearbox, ceramic composite brakes and the Sport Chrono Package - are standard on this one. Performance is, as you might expect, blistering, with a 0-62mph time of 3.3 seconds (helped by launch control and four-wheel drive) and a top speed of 196mph. Combined fuel economy is, at 24.8mpg, the same as that of the 911 Turbo, though you needn't expect to get anything like that if you're going to belt around at 196mph.
The Turbo S goes on sale in May this year, costing from £123,263 for the Coupé and £130,791 for the Cabriolet. Those prices include 19" RS Spyder wheels with centre locking nuts, dynamic cornering lights, adaptive sports seats, cruise control, two-tone leather upholstery and a Thatcham Category 5 approved vehicle tracking system.
