(Fri 18 Jun 10) Porsche is introducing a few changes to V8-engined versions of the Panamera, mostly with a view to improving fuel economy and reducing CO2 emissions.
The key feature is a new brake energy recuperation system, which like similar devices used by other manufacturers makes the alternator work harder when the car is slowing down. It also works less hard when the car is accelerating, thereby reducing resistance which otherwise has to be overcome by throwing more fuel into the engine. Porsche is also introducing, as an option, new tyres which give less rolling resistance and should also survive longer before needing to be replaced. The overall effect is an improvement of around 2mpg in combined economy and up to 21g/km in CO2 emissions. |
