| Small Engine For Audi A3 Cabriolet | ||
|
(Fri 26 Mar 10) The smallest petrol engine ever fitted to a production Audi will make its debut in a new version of the A3 Cabriolet, which is due to arrive in the UK in late May.
It's the Volkswagen Group's 1.2-litre TFSI turbo unit, and it's replacing the existing 1.6 non-turbo MPI. Both engines have the same maximum output of 104bhp, but the 1.2 TFSI is ahead in every other respect, making the Cabriolet slightly quicker (top speed 118mph, 0-62mph in 12.2 seconds) and much more economical (49.6mpg combined as against the 1.6's 40.4mpg). The 1.2's CO2 emissions of 132g/km are 35g/km better than those of the 1.6. On top of all that, the 1.2 is also £490 cheaper, with prices starting from £19,985. Audi dealers are taking orders now. |
